WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD
|
From the Wizards of the Coast Website:
“We recognize the important role third party publishing support plays in the success of the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. We have listened to the community and our valued colleagues and have taken their concerns and recommendations to heart. Our commitment to the health of the industry and hobby gaming lifestyle is reflected in the revisions to the Game System License.”
--Linae Foster D&D Licensing Manager
One can only assume this is because of the considerable negative press the GSL has been receiving, and the number of companies who are either refusing to publish 3rd party 4E material (like Green Ronin) or are planning on publishing 4E material under the auspices of "fair use". It will be interested to see what the revisions are, and how publishers will react.

Paizo Set to Release Gary Gygax\'s
|
Shimrath writes "Infernal Sorceress marks the first new Gygax novel since 1993
Mon, Jun 23, 2008, 12:00 PM
Paizo Publishing today announced the imminent release of Infernal Sorceress, the legendary lost novel of the late Gary Gygax, the co-creator of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying phenomenon. Infernal Sorceress releases next month.
\\\"A few months before Gary passed away, I asked if he had any unpublished fiction sitting around, thinking perhaps that I might put together an anthology of his short fiction,\\\" said Paizo\\\'s Publisher, Erik Mona. \\\"When he responded that he had an entire novel ready to go, I almost fell out of my chair. Infernal Sorceress is Gary\\\'s 11th and final novel, produced when he was at the top of his game as a novelist. We are honored to be bringing the book to the public for the very first time, and I know Gary was pleased that the story will finally find an audience.\\\""

Catching up with the Romans
|
Apparently we are still catching up with the Romans. Check out this d20 that sold at Christies for about $18k. It dates from the 2nd century AD. This makes even the Extraordinary Dwarven Stones seem cheap.

Dungeon Magazine Announces New Adventure Path!
|
Shimrath writes "\"The Elsir Vale has known a decade of peace following the rise of the Red Hand. The valley, as well as the town of Brindol, has flourished after adventurers defeated the threat posed by the hobgoblin armies. But now, from out of the hills to the north, a new threat has emerged. Natives of Brindol have been abducted, and the town’s war museum—dedicated to those fallen in the war against the Red Hand—has been raided and desecrated.
Meanwhile, beyond the Vale, the rumbling rumors of more trouble have begun to surface. Warbands forming in the mountains… Monsters crawling forth from the dark bowels of the world… And people everywhere have begun waking up at night in a cold sweat, uncertain where their feelings of dismay and panic come from…\"
The Scales of War Adventure Path will premiere in Dungeon #156, July 2008, with the 1st-level adventure “Rescue at Rivenroar,” by Wizards of the Coast designer David Noonan. Scales of War will continue each month in Dungeon, taking characters from 1st level all the way to 30th over the course of 18 adventures, spanning 18 months. This is the most ambitious Adventure Path in Dungeon’s history, and will take full advantage of the versatility of the new 4th Edition D&D rules. Support articles will appear regularly in Dragon, beginning with issue #366, August 2008.
Watch D&D Insider for more details in the coming weeks!"
